Mane Chance

Emergency Hay appeal

It's the perfect storm! Temperatures are soaring and without rain the grass can't grow so we are going to have to feed our 37 rescued horses all through Summer! To top it all, diesel prices and poor yield means hay prices are rocketing too!

Story

The perfect storm of rising diesel prices plus the ongoing drought meaning this years hay yield will be less than usual, has resulted in the price of hay sky rocketing. We are seeing bales retailing at £6.75 a bale and rising... We are now looking at the probability of feeding our 37 rescue horses hay all Summer as well as the Winter as we watch our normally green fields dry up and turn brown before our eyes. A local farmer has offered us a very competitive price of £5 per bale but this is more than we usually pay and the extra Summer months are adding to our running costs at a very difficult time. This is a terribly challenging time for so many people in this country but we have no choice but to go out and ask for help - however little, each penny will make a difference!!!
