Emma's sky dive for HOPE

Mother’s Sky Dive Honours Son’s Memory and Raises Awareness for Suicide Loss Support On 28th August 2026, Emma Greenwood will take a courageous leap—skydiving in memory of her beloved son, Harry Paul Greenwood—while raising vital funds and awareness

Closes 27/10/2026

HOPE exists to re-build lives by meeting the needs of those bereaved by suicide in Suffolk and Norfolk, aged 18+. It offers a unique, survivor-led service that responds to the trauma of suicide loss, is free of charge, remains flexible to the needs of the survivor with no restrictions on timeframes.

Story

Emma’s challenge is more than a personal milestone; it is a deeply heartfelt mission to shine a light on the realities of poor mental health and the devastating impact of suicide on families. Through this act, she hopes to encourage open conversations, inspire compassion, and ensure that more families receive the support they so desperately need.

Harry's Story

Harry was born on May 17, 1999—Emma’s third child and first son. From the very beginning, he was a bright, loving, and joyful boy, adored by his siblings. He had a passion for football and shared an especially close bond with his grandfather, who was his role model and greatest source of happiness.

At the age of 15, Harry experienced the profound loss of his grandfather. This life-changing event marked the beginning of a deep struggle with depression. Without a stable paternal figure, his grief intensified, and he began using cannabis as a way to cope with the pain.

Emma recalls how Harry initially opened up about his feelings, but over time, he began to withdraw. His confidence diminished, his appearance changed, and his mental health deteriorated. Despite her determined efforts to seek professional help, Harry kept much of his struggle private, often shielding his mother from the full extent of his pain.

A turning point came when Harry took an overdose of antidepressants. In a moment of crisis, Emma reached out to his father, who stepped in to help. That same night, Harry attempted to take his life on the motorway, but police intervened. Although there was consideration for further intervention, he was ultimately sent home.

In the days that followed, Emma spent precious time with her son. On her birthday, Harry returned home, and for a brief moment, there was laughter and connection around the table—glimpses of the young man they all loved so dearly. Before leaving the house later that day, Harry reassured his mother, promising, “Harry will come back.”

Tragically, that promise would not be fulfilled. After being reported missing and an agonising night of searching, Emma received the call no parent should ever endure. Harry had taken his own life in the place he called home.

Emma now shares her story to help others.

“My message is simple: keep talking. Trust your instincts. Fight for the support your loved ones deserve. Tell them you love them—every single day.”

In the aftermath of her loss, Emma found strength and understanding through Hope After Suicide Loss, an organisation that supports bereaved families across Norfolk and Suffolk. Through their compassion and community, she has learned the importance of listening without judgment, showing kindness, and seeking support.

“I am doing this challenge to raise awareness of poor mental health and to give thanks to Hope After Suicide Loss, who have supported me following Harry’s death and continue to support so many families. They remind us that even in grief, we are not alone.”

Emma’s sky dive stands as a powerful tribute to Harry’s life and a call to action for greater awareness, compassion, and support.
