Jill lives in a household in which she has her own bedroom, her own private space, her own bed. Getting a good night’s sleep is something she doesn’t even think about.
Jen lives in a very different household. She doesn’t have a bed to sleep in and she has to make do with the floor, sofa or bath when she’s tired. She wishes she could concentrate on her schoolwork, but it’s so hard. She’s so tired…
Think about the last time you didn’t get a good night’s sleep. The next day felt harder, didn’t it? You may have struggled to concentrate, to be productive, or to even enjoy your day. Now imagine this isn’t a one-off, but the reality every night.
For a staggering 6,000 children in the Wakefield community, this is the norm.
How can these children learn, develop, and grow when their basic needs aren’t being met? Sleep, food, and a sense of safety – these are the foundations that allow children to thrive.
We must bridge this gap. As a community, it is our responsibility to ensure that these fundamental needs are met for every child.
We want to give every child in the Wakefield District the chance to flourish, to become their best selves, and to build a brighter future. We want to give every young person an equal chance to have a happy, successful life.
We need your help. At the Community Foundation Wakefield District, we’re committed to supporting children and families, but we can’t do it alone. Together, we can create a community where all children across the district have a bed of their own and receive a good night’s sleep. A donation of £150 will pay for a bed, mattress, bedding set and pyjamas for one of those 6,000 children.
Let’s restore, repair, and invest in their futures.
Let’s make a real difference in the lives of children right here in the Wakefield District.
Let’s take action – because every child matters.
