Story
Ephraim was born with Pectus Excavatum (latin for hollow breast)
I have uploaded his chest X-ray and that of a normal cat for comparison.
At present Ephraim's liver has no bony cage protecting it and it is completely outside of his ribs when it should be tucked up inside the lower chest. Without an operation to fix his sternum, he risks a shorter lifespan because as he grows and his internal organs grow, his chest cannot accommodate them and he will become short of breath, can suffer heart issues as well as other problems all of which would lead to a premature death.
There is an operation which can be done to try and correct his sternum position. But this operation (with a CT scan which is necessary) is likely to cost around £3000 at least. (I have set the fundraising target higher as there will be follow up checks and aftercare and hospitalisation).
He needs to have this operation done between the ages of 5-7 months of age or it will be too late. He is 5 months old on 28/9/23
I know we are constantly fundraising to survive as a rescue but I feel we must at least give him a chance. Success rate is 60-70% so there is still a large % that do not make it but I feel we should try - IF we can raise the funds.
If you can spare £2 to help Ephraim, please donate today.
Thank you
