Story

Epilepsy medication transforms and saves lives. There are an estimated 100-120,000 people with epilepsy in Sierra Leone. Since 2010, we have worked with colleagues to train over 3,500 health workers and created 24 clinics within Ministry of Health (MOH) facilities nationally. As a result of this work, over 7,000 patients have come forward for treatment and we currently support them with a range of anti-epileptic medication to manage their condition.

The stigma and the resultant isolation of people affected by epilepsy in Sierra Leone impacts upon physical and mental health, often preventing access to education and a secure livelihood.

Lives are transformed through access to medication and the clinic figures are compelling: 90% of patients remain on treatment; 70% have no seizures; 25% experience a reduction.

Please support us with our annual shipment of medication. As with everything, the cost of medication has increased substantially in recent years. We urgently need to raise £14,000.

Without effective epilepsy medication people live unacceptably difficult lives, often excluded from their family, from school, from employment opportunities and even from their communities. Please help us to provide this vital medication to people living with epilepsy.
