🎧 Sponsored Silence – Wednesday 18th June 🎧
On Wednesday 18th June, our school will be taking part in a Sponsored Silence to raise money with Waves Music Therapy, a local East Preston charity that supports children and young people with complex needs through music, including pupils at our school.
Why a Sponsored Silence?
Some of the children supported by Waves live with anxiety, trauma or complex needs that make speaking incredibly difficult. For them, music becomes a lifeline. Waves therapists work with children who need help expressing themselves, building confidence and making sense of big feelings, using music as the bridge.
We hope the Sponsored Silence will be fun and get the children thinking creatively- how do we express ourselves without words? How can we show how we feel or make ourselves understood in different ways?
It also opens up an important conversation about children’s mental health. Some children don’t have the words to explain how they feel. Others may be overwhelmed or scared to speak. This challenge reminds us how important it is to create space for every child to feel safe, listened to, and able to express themselves in whatever way works for them.
About Waves
Waves Music Therapy is an East Preston charity that provides clinical and creative music therapy for children and young people across Sussex. Their work supports those facing anxiety, trauma, disability and emotional difficulties especially when traditional talking therapies don’t work.
Each year, Waves supports over 1,500 children and young people and funds more than 91% of the sessions it provides helping to cut waiting lists for children in crisis and ensure therapy is accessible to those who need it most.
Every penny we raise will support more children to access support.
