Story

UPDATE 13/05/2025

Thank you to everyone for this amazing support! When we set the target we had no idea we would actually be able to reach it, yet knowing the vet bill would be way more.

UPDATE ON GIDDY

Giddy is recovering well. Three weeks on, she is still on box rest, but she is able to go for small walks in hand to have some grass. As she tore through the muscle and tendon, she will need to build this back up slowly.

UPDATE ON THE CHALLENGE

On Sunday the 4th of May, Loes finished the 33 mile long Marlborough Challenge as first female. This was an official running-club event, and not even being part of a running club, Loes was a little shocked by the result. Sore legs for over a week, but recovering now she reflects back on the 5 hour 48 minutes 'I still can't believe I ran for 53.6 kilometres! Seeing the White Horse on the trail gave me a real lift when my legs were getting tired and cramp set in. It reminded me of Giddy and why I was putting myself through this'.

The Big Give for Giddy

Equilore is raising funds to help pay towards an unexpected hefty vet bill for one of the our therapy ponies Giddy.

Together with 4 other staff, a herd of 4 horses and 2 ponies and a brilliant team of volunteers, Equilore offers Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) and children's therapeutic programmes.

Who is Giddy?

Giddy and her friend Harley, were rescue ponies from Redwings. They have only been at Equilore for 6 months. In this time Giddy has helped many people find connection. Her relationship with her pony friend Harley has modelled social relationships to young people who struggle to make healthy friendships. And together, the pair have demonstrated the power and impact of attachment to those young people growing up in foster care.

What happened to Giddy?

Over the Easter weekend, Giddy tried to escape her field and caught her leg in the wire fence. At least we think this is what happened.. We will never know for sure, as she can't tell us.

The cut was so bad she required extensive veterinary treatment including X-rays of her joints, biopsies for sepsis, a lot of pain relieve, and minor surgery to flush the joints clean.

As a rescue pony herself, Giddy has never been separated from her friend Harley. So we also had to bring Harley to the hospital to ensure she stayed calm enough.

Why do we need money?

Her treatment cost over £3000. A huge cost to a small charity like Equilore.

The challenge:

To raise money, Equilore's founder Loes,, will be running The Marlborough Downs Challenge on 4 May 2025, a 33 mile trail run through Wiltshire's beautiful countryside.

The course is off-road along tracks and footpaths and there is plenty of climbing - over 3000 feet for the 33 mile race.

How can you help?

No donation is too small!

Sharing our story, on social media, talking about Equilore to your friends and family will already help a small charity like us.

If you are in a position to donate money, anything from as little as one pound is so gratefully appreciated!

THANK YOU!

Thank you for your support and let's all hope Giddy will make a speedy recovery. So far the wound is healing really well, but she will be on box rest for at least another month. Her friend Harley is keeping her company and we offer as much enrichment to her as we possibly can!
