Every Horse Is at Risk: Help Us Fight Equine Grass Sickness
One moment they are grazing peacefully. The next, they are fighting for their lives.
Equine Grass Sickness (EGS) is one of the most devastating diseases affecting horses, ponies, donkeys, and other equines across the UK and beyond. Despite decades of research, the cause remains unclear, treatment options are limited, and too many owners are left facing heartbreak.
What makes grass sickness particularly frightening is that it does not discriminate.
It can affect any horse, pony, donkey, or equine, regardless of breed, age, size, discipline, or value. From much-loved family ponies and rescue donkeys to elite competition horses and racehorses, no equine is completely safe from this devastating disease.
For many owners, the symptoms appear suddenly. A horse that seemed perfectly healthy can become unwell within hours and must be humanely euthanised quickly to prevent further suffering. It is important to note that EGS is not contagious and is usually implicated in grazing animals.
Researchers, vets, and volunteers have worked together for years to better understand Equine Grass Sickness, improve prevention strategies, and develop more effective treatments. Every breakthrough brings us closer to a future where fewer horses are lost and fewer owners experience the pain of this disease. However, the equine grass sickness fund is rapidly running out of money to fund research. We need your help.
By donating today, you will help fund vital research, increase awareness, support education for horse owners and veterinary professionals, and bring us one step closer to answers that could save lives.
