FMPGC Men’s A 24 Hour Erg Challenge
On the 22nd of March, Flushing and Mylor Men’s A will be completing a 24 Hour Erg Challenge to raise money for the club’s new gig. The challenge will be a rowing machine relay, where each rower will complete two shifts of two hours. This will mean every rower will row in the day time and in the night.
We have (highly accurately…) mapped the distance from Peter William’s boatshed in Fowey where the gig will be built, to the Scillies, and back, and this has given us a rough 320 km round trip to aim for on the erg. Meaning each rower will complete an ultra marathon over the full four hours.
FMPGC is integral to the local community and supports a membership of ~150 members of all ages, who come from all around the Flushing, Falmouth, Truro, and Redruth area to row, socialise, and keep the sport going. The club also has a long standing partnership with Falmouth and Exeter Universities, giving opportunities to students to experience gig rowing and race across the South West. The new gig will be the first the club has commissioned in over 10 years, and represents the ambitions of the club as we celebrate our 20th anniversary.
If you’re able to spare any change, please give generously on our JustGiving page, and wish the boys luck if you see them out and about, their bodies will need it!
