FACE and GAZA SUMMER KIDS CAMP
Organised by FACEThe first of our annual KIDS multi-sports, play and arts camps in Gaza, Palestine. Every Palestinian child has the right to an environment in which they can reach their innate potential.
Story
Since 2007, Gaza has been living under a blockade, meaning people and goods are prevented from freely entering and leaving Gaza by land, sea or air. This severely limits basic necessities like food, medicine and building materials from getting into Gaza.
The blockade makes life near impossible for the 1.8 million people who live there 1.2 million of whom are refugees. Most people have little or no access to essential resources such as electricity, water, and sewage removal.
Half the population of Gaza are children. Many have experienced conflict for a large part of their life and are battling with severe trauma and emotional distress. And their education has been affected too: over 250 schools were damaged or destroyed in 2014 alone.
The blockade, repeated conflict and increasing poverty has had a devastating impact on Gazas economy. Three out of seven people are unemployed, giving Gaza the highest unemployment rate in the world.
Whoever relieves a believers distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allah will conceal [his faults] in this life and the Hereafter. (Muslim)
TEAM FACE will this year be facilitating our first ever annual KIDS GAZA SUMMER & PLAY CAMP for both boys and girls in the East, which is most in need. We aim to instil a drop of hope, smiles and more confident and resilient children.
We often read about the traumas and effects of conflict and feel the need to make a first step in doing 'something' We do hope to add to the project in the near future by supporting psychosocial programmes and building our very own play and child development centre which will be accessible to all.
The SUMMER KIDS CAMP will cost as little as £2 per child per day and will consist of play, multi-sport and arts activities. Each child will recieve a FACE tee-shirt and a packed lunch. We may not be able to change their whole lives, but at least a first step in the right direction.
