Thousands have been killed by the huge earthquakes that hit Türkiye (Turkey) and Syria. Donate now to help children affected by the earthquakes.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye and Syria at around 4 am local time on 6 February. Millions of people across the region felt the earthquake, including in Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus, and Egypt.
Aftershocks were felt throughout the day, including two further earthquakes of 6.5 and 7.5 magnitude.
We are especially concerned for the safety and well-being of children who have lost their homes, those who are sleeping rough, and those who have been separated from their families.
How will my donation help children?
We have mobilised supplies and services to support the urgent needs of children and families affected by the earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye.
In Syria, we are working to ensure access to clean water, and seeking to secure childrens safety and wellbeing. While in Türkiye, we have mobilised vital emergency supplies and ensured access to safe spaces for children and families.
Safe water and nutrition; immediate focus is on ensuring there is access to safe drinking water, sanitation and nutrition supplies. This is critical in preventing illness in a crisis.
Healthcare and medical supplies ; we are providing life-saving medical supplies. Access to clean water combined with health information for displaced communities will help prevent a continuation of the recent cholera outbreak.
Child protection ; this includes work to identify unaccompanied children and reunite them with family. We also aim to provide children with psychological first aid and a safe space to rest and play.
Education; schools in Türkiye and parts of Syria have now been closed. Many of them now temporarily house the affected children and families. We will work with our partners to ensure children are able to get back into the classroom as soon as it is safe.
Please help us reach the children and families affected by this devastating earthquake. Donate today to our Türkiye and Syria earthquake appeal.
