FEAR are a registered Charity, who aim to support, educate and provide information, to those living on artificial nutrition (or individuals receiving treatment via a central line). We also support the friends and family of these individuals, and have a mental health team on hand to help.
We run monthly swim events, across England, for children and adults (as well as their families) who receive artificial nutrition (most commonly known as 'tube fed'). In addition to our swim events, we also run regular activity days, including sailing, rock climbing, archery and canoeing. All events aim to give people an opportunity to have fun, make friends, and spend time away from their condition.
We lend specialised drysuits to children and adults who have a central line, and who otherwise wouldn't be able to swim. These specialised suits enable the individual to swim safely; keeping their central line dry. We lend each drysuit out for up to 6 months at a time, for free. Each suit costs from £390, which is a price not a lot of families can afford. The impact of this however, is that they, or their child, misses out on the joy of swimming. The 'FEAR Drysuits' are free to borrow, and allow people to learn to swim, splash about with friends and family, or swim in the sea on Holiday.
We donate FEAR Bears, worldwide, to children and adults who are living with a chronic condition To date, we have donated over 4,000 FEAR Bears (April'23).
FEAR have a well-being team, consisting of a number of registered mental health nurses. Our team are contactable 24/7 and can be reached via email, phone, whatsapp of Facetime.
We write and provide personalised resources for children, to aid their understanding of their condition. We also extend this into communication aids, to help children communicate their needs, worries and feelings around their condition.
