The Benedictine monks of Farnborough are now just £15,000 short of their £119,000 target for the restoration of the Cavaillé-Coll organ in their Abbey Church. Built in 1880, and installed in 1905 at Farnborough by Mutin, the instrument is one of the finest French organs in England. Described as 'exquisite' by a leading organ builder, the Cavaillé is in need of various repairs to deal with the vicissitudes of time and wear. The proposed works, which conclude those begun in the year 2000, will ensure that the organ continues in its vital role in the sacred liturgy of the monks and the edification of all who travel to Farnborough to hear it.
