Story
Who is Carole Webb?
In 1988 Carole Webb began the journey of compassion that led to FARS - Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary. Over the past 38 years she has provided sanctuary to tens of thousands of animals.
For the majority FARS was their last chance, rescued from abandonment, slaughter and cruelty at human hands. For others, we were another caring family when their previous carers could no longer look after them.
Carole’s vision is one where all farmed animals will be allowed to grow old in peace and safety, free from human exploitation.
Carole has put everything she owned into the Sanctuary, and has never let the residents down, even in times of severe grief and loss. One winter her disabled daughter Melanie passed away suddenly, at 30 years old. 6 weeks later Carole’s beloved mother Dolly passed away.
The Doctor said it was because my mum had lost her purpose in life. Through all this trauma and loss of my family, the animals kept me going. I rescued them, but they also rescued me.
To support her growing family of Sanctuary animals, she sold her family house to move into a caravan on-site.
We currently provide a forever home to over 400 rescued farm animals, We rescue and rehabilitate a range of animals, predominantly sheep, pigs and chickens. FARS has around 300 sheep residents, 3 pigs, 3 feral cats and 24 hens. We also have rehabilitation aviaries and a large flock of free flying pigeons who live around the Sanctuary.
What does FARS do today?
We actively promote a compassionate lifestyle by giving people a place to meet farmed animals and appreciate their nature and plights, as well as educating visitors on the positive impacts of veganism.
Our sanctuary is not just an Animal Sanctuary for our residents, but also a Sanctuary for our human visitors.
Our lease has 6 years remaining, and we aim to raise enough funds to buy either our current rented land or another to enable us to keep running for 40 more years (at least!)
By purchasing our own sanctuary land, we would foremost eliminate our biggest monthly outgoing, which is rent. Secondly, we would become more self-sufficient with new fundraising initiatives open to us. Visitors would be able to camp or ‘glamp’ at the sanctuary, we could have an on-site café, shop and much more! Most of all, we would no longer have the uncertainty which comes with renting land with 400 rescued animals who depend on us.
The possibilities will be endless, and you can be a part of it.
Although we would need around £1 million, it all starts today with one square foot of land at a time. By donating, you become a part of the future of not just our Sanctuary, but a kinder future for all animals, a vision that Carole had in 1988 and all of us at FARS continue today.
** As a gesture of our appreciation, for each donation of £10 or more email us to book your free guided tour of our sanctuary for you and a friend! info@farmanimalrescuesanctuary.co.uk **
