The Mount Vernon Breast Cancer Research Unit is based in the Marie Curie Research Wing of the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. It comprises of several Consultants, Clinical and Medical Oncologists, Breast Cancer Physician, Research Nurses, Data Managers, PA and Clinical Research Fellows. It facilitates the conduct of research with a focus in breast cancer within the Cancer Centre. Research conducted within the unit is wide ranging and aims at improving our understanding of processes involved in breast cancer development and its treatment. Much of the work is through the conduct of clinical trials for the improvement of breast cancer treatment. Trials conducted in the unit include locally developed trials, national trials and also international trials. Recruitment figures in our unit are consistently high. These trials offer local patients the opportunity to have access to the latest treatments as well as resulting in better treatments for all women with breast cancer.
