Thanet Iceberg works with clients in a range of situations. Some of those we work alongside are either homeless (someone who has no accommodation that they are entitled to occupy such as sofa surfers, or the accommodation they have is so poor they cannot reasonably be expected to occupy it) or roofless (rough sleeping, street homeless).
When we are able to assist clients to find secure, appropriate accommodation of their own they are often starting from ground zero with little or no belongings, no savings, and usually no job. Finding the accommodation is often the easiest step - ensuring they have the right support and get off to a strong start is usually the hardest challenge.
The funds raised by this campaign will be used:
- to cover agency fees
- to cover any van hire costs associated with moving in
- top up any electric and gas meters at the property so that they start with the utilities they need
- cover the cost of any first food shop for items not able to be sourced from local food banks, The Kitchen, and other charitable agencies
- help obtain a tv licence where relevant
- contribute to the hire of a lock up facility where furniture and household items donated by the public can be stored for future clients
