Story
Wind gusts exceeded 150mph. Over 80% of the city has suffered damage. Roofs were torn from homes, hospitals and businesses, and severe flooding followed through the night. This is the worst storm the area has experienced in more than 30 years.
More than 40 people are reported to have lost their lives and power across the city remains down for the vast majority of homes and buildings. Many roads remain closed and public transport is limited.
Our Fistula Care Centre (FCC) was damaged but not critically and we are most grateful there was no serious injury or loss of life amongst our team. Sadly, however, all 38 of our staff and volunteers have suffered damage to their homes.

At the same time, the cost of fuel, transport, food and building materials is rising rapidly and many families have lost small crops that were an essential source of food.
The city is in crisis. Hospitals are in crisis and emergency care is being delivered in incredibly challenging conditions.
We, at Freedom From Fistula, are playing our part by providing access to our operating theatre for emergency obstetric cases, ensuring women with life-threatening complications can still receive care.
Government, military and international aid agencies are responding but the rebuilding task is enormous.
From financial aid to staff and families, to rebuilding and repairing the FCC and hospital infrastructure, the need is huge.
If you are able to help, your support will make a direct and immediate difference and will help us respond where the need is urgent.
