A Sudden Torrent from the High Mountains: Entire Villages Swept Away in Seconds

In the high mountain valleys of northern Nepal along the remote Himalayan frontier, disaster struck without warning. A violent, sudden flash flood surged through river channels, unleashing a colossal wall of water, boulders, and silt that tore through quiet mountain communities.

In mere seconds, homes, schools, clinics, and critical access bridges were ripped from their foundations. Over a hundred lives have already been confirmed lost, with hundreds more unaccounted for. Families were forced to run for high ground with nothing but the clothes on their backs, watching in horror as the places they built over generations vanished into the torrent.

With roads washed away and bridges collapsed, survivors in these isolated high-altitude settlements are stranded with the traumatic shock of sudden loss.

A Heritage of Courage, A Duty of Care

For over two centuries, the brave people of Nepal and the historic Gurkha regiments have answered every call of duty with steadfast valour, serving peace and communities across the globe.

Since 2011, the Gurkha Peace Foundation (GPF UK) has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with vulnerable mountain communities, building educational infrastructure, supporting veterans, providing sanitation and clean water, and responding whenever disaster strikes our homeland.

When a flash flood severs mountain transport links, standard aid routes fail. GPF UK is mobilising local volunteer networks and grassroots responders on the ground to deliver emergency survival packs and trauma care directly into the most remote cut-off zones.
