Flitwick Community Fridge is a volunteer-driven food surplus initiative organised and funded by Flitwick Town Council. Our primary objectives are to reduce food waste and support local residents impacted by the ever-increasing cost of living. The service has evolved from humble beginnings into a seven-day-a-week operation, supporting a significant number of residents in Mid Bedfordshire. We redistribute over 4,000 kg of food every month. All our food is provided free of charge; in addition to running our Food Hub in Flitwick, we supply food to projects in Clophill and Toddington on a weekly basis,
We have reached a stage where we require our own van to transport food and extend our reach within the community more effectively. Currently, the food no longer fits in our volunteers’ cars, and the council’s trucks (used by the grounds team) are not suitable for this purpose; the food frequently gets soaked in the rain, and the volume we can carry is limited.
We are fortunate to have received a generous offer from the One-O-One Servicecentre to cover the maintenance and servicing of the van.
Our goal is to raise £15,000 to purchase a secondhand van for Flitwick Community Fridge. While we are applying for various grants to cover part of the cost, we are also hoping that local individuals and businesses will contribute to this cause. Can you help us reach our goal?
