Frau Frank's Paraglide

To raise money for the bursary fund, Miss Frank has undertaken a paraglide, something she had never done before. Her aim - to raise the fees for the first year of a MIV bursary student hoping to join us in September. The donations link remains open.

The bursary programme offers financial assistance to talented girls from families with low incomes. In 1904, the school opened with a number of scholarships and today we remain committed to educating talented young women by offering bursaries at both at 11+ and 16+ entry. Today, 91 Paulinas receive financial assistance. This is about 12 per cent of our school population and our aim, over time, is to increase that figure to 20 per cent. The gift of a St Paul’s education is the most valuable and far-reaching that a girl with exceptional abilities could receive. In addition to a broad education and extra-curricular activities, St Paul’s provides a foundation for university and careers within a network of inspirational alumnae and peers. The ambitious students of St Paul’s come from all walks of life and any girl whose family cannot afford the fees should receive the necessary means tested help so she can take up her place. The school relies on donations to fund bursaries and we warmly welcome gifts of all sizes. Every gift brings us closer to funding a bursary for a girl and ensuring that no deserving candidate is ever turned away from St Paul’s. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to every donor and your continued generosity provides for talented Paulinas year after year.

Video: Flying Frau Frank!

It is with great delight that I can now say: It is done! After my paraglide was postponed twice I finally took off on Saturday 13 November 2021 for an exhilarating ride across the South Downs. The running start and landing were easy due to a very experienced instructor. The quiet up in the air, the views across the landscape and the sea, and kestrels hovering underneath us in their search for prey turned the paraglide into an unforgettable experience.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far. Now it is time to fundraise in earnest! I look forward to your contributions to our SPGS bursary fund; hopefully I will raise enough money to sponsor a bursary girl for an entire year. Many thanks in advance! Kate/Frau Frank

For those of you who don't know Miss Kate Frank, usually called Frau Frank, she was Head of Lower School at SPGS for 16 years up to 2020. She has settled generations of MIV students into the school and helped them shape their Paulina identity. Her particular focus has always been our 11+ bursary students. She says: So often have I seen promising young Paulinas come into MIV, shy and tentative at first, and then quickly opening up and beginning to blossom towards the end of the autumn term this was the greatest joy in my role.
