Story

Frittenden Memorial Hall is the only hireable hall of its size in the village. It was planned and built in the 50s and early 60s, and while it has a strong structure, the walls and fittings are worn out and flimsy, and the insulation is non-existent, so the Hall has been inadequate for many years. It cannot be heated sufficiently in the winter, and is too hot for activities on warm summer days. We want to provide, through remodelling and refurbishment, the community space that the village needs and deserves, to suit the requirements of our active groups and make it possible for new groups to flourish.

Frittenden is rural and looks beautiful, but there is no public transport and this can lead to isolation and loneliness especially in the elderly and people without their own transport. The Village Hall is a vital resource for these groups, but also for the whole village in providing a centre that can strengthen bonds, improve our welcome to new residents and sustain the activities that enhance village life.

We will remove the stage, which will provide space for an additional small meeting room and a bigger kitchen and toilet area. New heating, insulation, doors and double-glazed windows will make the Hall more usable through the year as well as being more energy efficient. The rear of the Hall will be opened up with windows in the back wall, decking and landscaping to create a pleasant outdoor area and open up the superb view it offers over the Weald.

The Hall is a valuable asset for its rural community. Its facilities enable groups of all sizes to use it for meetings and events, fitness classes are run, and touring groups put on plays. Its role as a social hub is especially important in a village with no public transport.
