Story
When Chris and Deborah discovered they were pregnant, they were over overjoyed. However, this joy turned to uncertainty when at their 20 week scan they found out that their unborn baby had a severe brain condition. They were told that their baby was “incompatible with life” and was unlikely to survive the pregnancy, let alone birth or beyond. Chris and Deborah were offered a termination but they declined as they wanted to give their daughter, who they named Jovie, a chance at life.
Being thrusted into this scary and unfamiliar situation, Chris and Deborah soon realised there was very little support for parents like themselves. They spent every day of their pregnancy making as many memories as possible, fearing the worst but hoping for the best.
Against all odds, Jovie made it to full term, came out breathing and surpassed all expectations the medical professionals had for her. Even though she was severely disabled she brought a new sense of purpose and belonging. This became a familiar story of other families given an “incompatible with life” prognosis and the reason behind why the charity was founded.
The charity supports parents and families who find themselves in a similar situation, offering a listening ear, a place to turn and financial support where necessary.
