Story
Montserrat is still rebuilding after the devastation caused by the volcanic eruption that left two thirds of the island inaccessible, but it is an island of hope and optimism. The National Trust wants Eco Play to provide a much-needed activity, play and education centre that will ensure that the development of the island is inclusive for young people.
Eco Play will be located in a new park to be created on recently acquired land adjacent to the National Trust and its botanical gardens. The multi-functional building will incorporate facilities for disabled persons, a room for playing and learning, and a small kitchenette. The building will include naturally ventilated spaces with solar hot water and high levels of daylight to minimize the use of electricity. A roof terrace will provide a secure play area and breath-taking views across the tree canopy to the Caribbean Sea.
