Story

We are a school that values creativity and performance arts in education. Whilst it is commonplace for Drama, Music and Dance to be removed from schools, or left squeezed within the timetable to a rotation of an hour a fortnight once a half term, Fram is a school that truly believes in the transformative power of the arts. We have a strong engagement in lessons, our school shows, the co-curricular offers, and participation on school trips. The creative arts are an important part of our school community and one of our core values ‘Be Creative’.

We need to raise £25,000, to date we have raised £20,130 (£15,000 from The Norwich Charitable Trust, £5,000 from Sapientia Education Trust and £130 from the Splat the Teacher event. We need to raise the final £4,870.

The school hasn’t been able to offer a main stage production in over six years due to the requirements of updating fixtures. Young people shouldn’t be the ones to suffer and miss out, we need to offer a first-class education and for us creativity is central to that experience. Every child at Fram should have the opportunity to engage in plays, musicals, dance shows and musical concerts.

This crowd funding campaign is about creating opportunities free of charge within our children’s local community. We would like to give students the chance to perform and/or operate lighting, sound and stage equipment to gain valuable experience and better understand possible career opportunities.

This bid is supported by our students, they have created a ‘Funding at Fram’ group and have sought to raise funds through Doughnut Sales, Bargain Hunt Activities, Throw a sponge at a teacher. The testimonies in the application and in full below are part of their commitment.”

James (Year 11 Student):

In year 7 and year 8, I had a very hard time on concentrating in class and struggled to behave in and out of lessons. I felt like I was different to everyone else and the only way for me to fit in was being naughty and getting attention from everyone else. Drama made a huge difference to my time at school, and it allowed me to feel like I was able to work in a place where I was valued. I have enjoyed working with the technical theatre equipment, the standard in the Drama Studio felt close to theatre / shows standard. Although the Drama Studio has been brilliant, it’s not really a big enough space to work in, this has been limiting because I wasn’t able to fully experiment with different variation of lights, and it limited the amount of space we have to do performance and the amount of space for an audience. Framingham Earl has fed my enjoyment of technical theatre, I am going to City Collage to study Production Arts Level 3. This includes lighting, sound, and stage management. Fram is a school that values Drama and it is here I have been able to find my passion in production and feel like I’m in a safe place and doing the things I love.

Alice (Year 9 Student):

I am a year 9 student at Framingham Earl High School and have been studying drama for 3 years and am taking it for GCSE. furthermore, I have done a lot of extra-curricular activities within the Drama department including NTA connections and the garage Norwich shows. Our school has many great opportunities such as these however performing in our small drama studio can be hard for larger performances such as these plays. Even though we have good lighting in our drama studio it would be great to have it in our school hall and stage as we will be able to do larger performances such as musicals which a lot of the drama students including myself would enjoy. Overall, our school community would be very appreciative of the money as to expand our drama experiences and improve our skills to help us pursue things we enjoy at Fram.
