The NNU at St George’s needs a new video laryngoscope. This piece of equipment is used to intubate babies needing ventilation and this particular model has been trialled by the staff on the unit, who all agree it is the best available device for our tiny babies.
Consultant Neonatologist Dr Duffy told us:
“The video laryngoscope is used on the unit and on the labour ward for placing breathing tubes in the baby’s airway to go onto the ventilator. The CMAC HD Videolaryngoscope has been developed by the leaders in fibre optic scope technology and provides the best image quality of the airway and can be used in small preterm babies. The procedure can be high risk if the baby’s airway is difficult to visualise and oxygen levels are low so using the best available equipment decreases these risks.”
The cost of this video laryngoscope is £22,181. We are grateful for any and all donations which will enable us to fund this urgent equipment as soon as possible.
May 2024 update: we have updated our offline donations, thanks to the fundraising efforts of Hugo, Lizzie, Tommy, Sally, Laura, Robertses, Hannah, Sharon, Jess and George. Thanks to you all!
