A small charity, Transition Edinburgh South (TES), has been supporting Gracemount Community Garden in a housing estate on the periphery of Edinburgh since 2013. Not everybody has the energy, time, money or confidence for their own vegetable garden. Gracemount Community Garden is for local people to grow fruit and vegetables using organic regenerative techniques - looking after the soil, the wildlife and the quality of the food. It was once the walled garden attached to Gracemount mansion which has been a youth and community centre run by City of Edinburgh Council until it was closed down as uneconomic to repair. That's when we lost access to a toilet putting the project at risk. Now TES are helping a new group, Friends of the Mansion, to set up a development trust and take on the mansion and grounds as a community asset. This may take a little while longer. Meanwhile, please help us to fund a disabled access toilet in our new portacabin. The reality, unpleasant though the thought is, there can be no further development of Gracemount Community garden project without a toilet. For health & safety, for disabled provision, for potential use by any and all persons who may be working or visiting the garden - we really need a toilet.
