Story
The Slide Away team saw a 35% growth in new referrals from Kent's schools during the 2022/2023 academic year; already this year, referral numbers are higher still. Each referred child and their family are supported by the Slide Away team as they ready themselves to attend the therapeutic workshops, memory days, and parent or carer sessions that we offer to help them understand and manage their grief.
As well as our core support for bereaved children and young people, and their parents or carers, our service also includes bespoke Forest School inspired workshops for those bereaved under the most traumatic circumstances, support for children living with terminally ill family members, and support and advice for schools experiencing a death in their community.
Slide Away makes no charge for its service. There is very little local government funding available these days, and competition is fierce as a consequence. So, we rely on funding from trusts and grants, and on donations received from the individuals, schools or groups who generously offer to host or support fundraising events.
We would ask that you please consider helping us by telling your colleagues, your management team, your PTA, your school governors, and your families and pupils about our work and its importance to your school and its community. By spreading the word, individuals, schools and local companies may, hopefully, consider sponsoring us or raising funds to allow us to continue our work in your schools.
Please consider supporting us this year with your school fundraising efforts. We can provide you with leaflets and posters to support your fundraising event, and we would be happy to send someone from the team to explain our services to your audience.
Feedback from young people:
Slide Away gives you hope….It just brings you that silver cloud, that silver lining that you need in your life. It just gives you peace again.
Feedback from parents
My daughter lost her confidence. She wasn’t getting on with her friends and didn’t want to go to school. Then after the workshop, slowly her confidence grew.
That is the beauty of Slide Away, that parents get the support as well.
Feedback from schools
Slide Away offers a very valuable experience to our children. All come back having gained so much and some have formed new friendships too. It is very important for young people to meet others who are experiencing the same emotions as themselves. If Slide Away didn't exist I do feel our children wouldn’t be able to move onwards in a positive state of mind.
