Story
On Sunday 9th August MMT was phoned to ask if anyone could take on an orphaned foal, the mare (her mum) had died on Friday and the foal was not expected to survive without help and extra care. She is now with the charity being cared for by one of our Trustees, we are raising funds for her veterinary care and substitute milk. She has been named Tinkerbell after Mousie’s friends from the book Moorland Mousie, which our Charity takes its name from.
One of our trustees went to collect her, a challenge in itself- 50 miles away. The foal had been offered milk but hadn’t really taken to bottle feeding and was pretty wild. Reluctant to leave the herd, she was coaxed into a trailer and headed to her new home with the help of a volunteer. Veterinary advice was: feed soft hay, milk and creep feed. A hefty shopping list to get started with!
Within days she is already friendly, drinking milk from a bowl, has been to the vets and has had her first injections and a health check. Without MMT many of these foals, and surplus to requirement Exmoor’s would struggle, as happened in the past. Would you like to help Tinkerbell and other ponies in our care?
