Story
We have the wonderful opportunity to purchase 7 acres of land adjacent to our flourishing Restharrow Scrape. The land comprises the fields known as Jubilee Field and Dragonfly Field.
We have been managing this area under lease for several years with great success. With your help we can purchase the fields. We can modify the land to make it better for wildlife while also improving it for everyone.
Specifically we can:
- make it more available to more people by providing accessible gates and paths
- make it more interesting and provide more information for our members and visitors by creating a nature trail
- expand the habitat for the extremely rare Dainty Damselfly by providing more ponds
- make more nesting sites for birds by planting more trees of native species in the hedge
- attract more birds over winter by providing good feeding areas
- attract more insects, amphibians and reptiles by creating extra habitat
- encourage more plants through good land management practices
Dainty Damselflies are among the many species of Odonata which use the dragonfly pond within this area. This one pond is thought to hold approximately 90% of the Dainty Damselflies in the UK.
Purchasing this land means that we can ensure its availability and suitability for wildlife forever and for visitors from our local community and further afield. As part of the project, we are drawing up plans to develop the area to further increase the biodiversity across the whole of our nature reserves and improve access for visitors.
Any amount you can donate will help us reach our target of £155,000. This is made up of: Purchase and legal fees of £139,000, Access gates £2,000, Extra pond(s) £6,000 and Habitat Creation £8,000
We have already raised £68,000 for the purchase and to support access
Please help us make our vision a reality by giving what you can.
Thank you!
