Story
Though not yet two years old, Lancaster Men's Hub has already grown in number of participants and scale of activities. We are now recognised locally as a key part of community support for men's wellbeing and recently were recognised nationally as winners in the Health and wellbeing category at the UK Men's Shed Association Shed of the Year Awards.
Members testify to the positive impact of Hub activities on their sense of wellbeing, their social circles and their health.
To date we have used spaces rented by the hour for indoor activities. This limits numbers, timing and how much mess we can make. Some indoor activities (eg woodworking) have taken place outdoors. With our own spaces we can grow the range and scale of activities, offer more to men who have daytime jobs, and leave things out to dry.
We have found a workshop to rent, bringing woodworking indoors. We have some grant funding for this but this doesn't cover full costs. We need to install benches, storage for tools and dust removal machines.
We have had promising discussions about a further multi use space to rent, in which we can grow our creative, social and educational activities.
With your help we can do more to combat loneliness and isolation amongst men in the Lancaster area.
