Gables Dogs and Cats Home is a non-euthanasia rescue and rehoming centre that has been caring for the regions unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats since 1907. We totally rely on public support and donations as we receive no Government or other funding.

Story

We are appealing to the public for urgent support after rescuing a colony of 19 very sick cats and kittens found living on the streets in terrible conditions.

The cats and kittens arrived here at Gables in an extremely poor state of health. Many are painfully underweight, with infected and inflamed eyes requiring immediate veterinary treatment. Most of the cats are weak, dehydrated, have terrible diarrhoea and in desperate need of nutritious food and a safe place to recover.

Most of the female cats are either pregnant or have kittens with them. Some of the mothers with kittens are sadly already pregnant again so the numbers will soon double!

We are working tirelessly to give these cats the best possible chance of recovery, but the cost of treating so many seriously neglected animals at once is significant. The smallest kittens are being supplementary fed around the clock to help them gain weight as they are dangerously malnourished.

Every cat and kitten will require veterinary examinations, medication, ongoing monitoring, parasite treatment, high-quality nutrition and once well enough vaccinations, neutering, and microchipping before they can begin the search for a loving new home.

This is one of those rescues that reminds us why our work is so important. These cats and kittens have clearly endured a great deal of suffering, yet despite everything, they are beginning to show trust and respond to the kindness they are now receiving. We are determined to give them the chance of a healthy, happy future, but we cannot do it without the support of our wonderful community.

It is estimated it will cost £2,500 for all the treatment and medication that these cats and kittens will need now and into the future, as well as basic care such as neutering, flea and worm treatment and vaccinations.

Gables does not receive any government funding, so we totally rely on donations given by the public. We are determined to help the cats and kittens flourish. Those unable to donate can still make a huge difference by sharing the appeal with friends, family, and on social media.

If Gables is lucky enough to raise more money than is needed for this appeal, the excess will go into general funds to help all the animals in our care.
