Why I’m running for Felix Fund
On 18 April 2027, I’ll be taking on the Newport Half Marathon, 13.1 miles to raise money for a charity whose work really resonates with me.
I’m a Mental Health First Aider, so I understand just how important it is to recognise when someone might be struggling, to start conversations around mental health and, importantly, to make sure people know that support is available.
That’s one of the reasons Felix Fund’s work, particularly its Dashboard mental health and resilience course, really struck a chord with me.
Felix Fund supports the UK’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Search community, including serving personnel, veterans and their families. These are people who have undertaken incredibly demanding roles, often working in high-pressure environments where resilience is essential. But being resilient doesn’t mean having to deal with everything alone.
Through Dashboard and its wider health and wellbeing work, Felix Fund helps people take time to look at their own mental health, recognise when things might not be quite right and gives them practical tools to help manage life’s pressures.
So, on 18 April, I’ll be pulling on my running shoes and doing my bit.
Every donation, no matter how large or small, will help Felix Fund continue this important work. And when the legs start hurting and there are still miles to go, knowing that people have supported this fantastic cause will give me a very good reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
If you can support me, please donate. Together we can help Felix Fund continue to be there for the EOD & Search community and their families. 💙
Thank you,
Gareth
