Why water costs more in Gaza

Delivering water in Gaza isn't the same as delivering it anywhere else. Damaged infrastructure, restricted access, transport difficulties, fuel shortages and emergency conditions on the ground all push up the cost of getting clean water safely to the people who need it.

And the need is growing. Aid agencies report that water production in Gaza has dropped to around 40% of pre-war levels, with families surviving on roughly six litres per person per day — below the UN's recommended minimum (ICRC, June 2026). The UN warns that with over 70% of people now relying on trucked water, funding gaps are putting that supply at risk just as summer temperatures climb (UN OCHA, 12 June 2026).
