SHARE have launched a campaign to raise £10,000 to set up and run a cyber cafe at the hub (our outreach centre).

Homeless individuals who want to reintegrate into the workforce or wider society face a huge barrier due to a lack of basic technology or digital skills.

Studies have shown that within the homeless population there is a lack of effective education that builds confidence and skills, as well as barriers for entry within public spaces that provide Internet access.

16% (8.6 million) of the UK are not able to fill out an online application form

18% of the UK adults claiming benefits (1.2 million people) have low or no digital capability at all

About Share

At Share we support families in crisis and people who are homeless in Cheshire by providing valuable shelter, essential goods, advocacy and outreach services to those living rough on the streets of Chester.

The Share Hub is open daily to our friends who are homeless for hot meals, clothes and toiletries. It is also a place that offers support, activities, and help to meet peoples specific needs.

The Share team offer daily basic aid, but also help to empower people to positively move their lives forwards and engage with rebuilding their lives, or even volunteer on the Share Team themselves.

We signpost people to services, and continue to assist and support people during their transition into accommodation and then into employment.

How the funds will be used

To purchase equipment such as computers, laptops, tablets, printers and smartphones

To fund digital skills training (including staffing costs) in areas such as using email, basic office applications, job searching, form filling and accessing health, housing and support services

To fund online training and e-learning courses to gain vital digital skills and help people into employment
