2025 has been marked by violence, both global and local: genocide and war crimes by powerful nations; politics that capitalise on conflict and the desperation of hurting people; episodes here in Northern Ireland of arson attacks and violent intimidation. What makes this brokenness even more discouraging is the realisation of how deeply polarised we have become. We struggle to overcome our ‘us versus them’ frameworks to find common cause with others.

We have become so horribly divided. Now is the time for new and renewed connections.
