For this year's Sepsis Awareness Month, we're simply asking you to Give Us 5.

Sepsis is the bodys life-threatening reaction to an infection. When sepsis strikes, the immune system overreacts and starts attacking not just the infection, but everything else around it including the bodys own tissues and organs. Sepsis is the number one cause of preventable death in the world. It is an indiscriminate,deadly condition that can kill a previously healthy adult in a matter of hours and that's despite all the advances in vaccines, antibiotics and intensive care.

Why 5?

Because there are:

5 key symptoms of sepsis that we want everyone to be aware of

5 sepsis-related deaths in the UK EVERY HOUR.

Sepsis can be fast, deadly and devastating, our mission is to #stopsepsisnow but we can only do this with your support. Help us continue to spread awareness and fund vital research into this life-threatening condition.

We know that this year more than ever things are really hard, and that fundraising is going to be tough. We wanted to offer you fundraising and awareness-raising activities that are as easy and flexible as possible.

With our Give us 5 campaign we hope that you will able to pick a 5 that suits you - be it 5 minutes or 5 hours of your time, 5 miles, donating £5 or raising £500 or even £5000!

Amongst many other ideas, you could:

- Do a 5k

- Sell 5 unwanted items on ebay or gumtree

- 5k a day in September

- Run 500 miles as a team over the month

- Climb 5 mountains in September

As you commit to your chosen activity the conversations that you start Why 5? - will directly help to raise awareness of sepsis and the 5 key symptoms, making Sepsis Awareness Month 2022 the most powerful yet in the fight against sepsis.

You could organise your own event or you could take part in an organised event already running up and down the country.
