Update on 12 July 2022 - Thank you all so much - drilling has started and is scheduled for completion tomorrow. This is so exciting and will eventually help many villagers as well as giving Glad a massive thank you for all his years of service to Smile Malawi. It was an amazing response and really appreciated.

This is a very personal appeal on behalf of our Malawian trustee Glad Munthali. Glad started Smile Malawi with me back in 2003 and he has been absolutely crucial in its success. Quite simply, without Glad, Smile Malawi would never have happened and would not have continued for over 18 years.

Glad has never been paid by Smile Malawi as he is a trustee but he has worked on and off for the Malawi Government for many years. Unfortunately, due to the change in President last year, Glad's work has completely ceased and he now finds himself back in his village of Chilumba in the north, without any sort of job or income! He had managed to build his own house over the last three years but he desperately needs a water supply via a deep borehole.

Many of our supporters have met Glad and will know what a truly loyal person he is and I'm hoping that you will join me in donating funds towards the cost of his borehole which is estimated at £4000. Back in 2005 we put our first borehole in at Smile Malawi and we have had clean free water ever since. Water is so important in our lives and something we take for granted in the west but is not available in the same way in Africa.

Glad is at the orphanage for 2 weeks at the moment sorting many important issues for me as I am still unable to fly out there! He has managed to get there twice during the pandemic and his presence has been so important in keeping up the morale of the staff and children who could have easily felt abandoned otherwise! It has been a tough two years for us all and its now nearly three years since the children saw me!

Please help me show Glad how much he is appreciated by us all.
