We support the over 60s to afford a rescue pet companion. If money is a genuine barrier, we can pay the rehoming fee for a RESCUE animal and continue to support, each month, with the cost of pet food. 'Helping individuals through loneliness and animals through homelessness'.

Story

Give a Dog a Bone and an animal a home is a unique, award winning charity, set up in a bid to tackle loneliness in older adults through animal companionship.

We aim to tackle loneliness in older adults and animal homelessness by providing two key services:

We provide financial support to people over 60 who are struggling to afford the ongoing monthly costs associated with caring for their pet. We can also cover the one-off rehoming fee so people over 60 can afford a rescue pet companion. It’s a win/win – the individual gets a friend, and the animal gets a loving home.

We provide Community Spaces in Shawlands, Troon and Alloa (and soon Dunfermline!), where people of any age are welcome to come in for a free cuppa and enjoy the company of our companionship dogs, staff and volunteers. At our spaces, we offer group activities and relaxing therapy treatments to over 60s for free, and their beloved canine companions are welcome too.
