A Stroke of Luck is a registered charity with the primary focus on supporting stroke survivors in their life after stroke. We have been established to provide the opportunity for survivors to engage in exercise to aid their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing through their recovery journey.

Story

2020 has been a very difficult year for so many people across the world. Stroke Survivors have really felt the challenges that 2020 has presented. So many survivors have had their rehabilitation and recovery paused or even stopped due to COVID, and some of the more at risk have had months of isolation. This clearly adversely impacts their physical and mental wellbeing.

A Stroke of Luck, was founded by a Stroke Survivor who has made it his mission to support his fellow survivors across the world through activity and exercise. In the first Lockdown, we decided to create a 12-week stroke-specific exercise programme which launched in the summer. This has been incredibly well received, with survivors across the globe engaging with the 10-minute exercise videos (https://www.astrokeofluck.co.uk/stroke-resources/exercise-videos/).

Craig says:

"Following my stroke, it was evident to me that people who have had strokes are broadly in 2 camps: survivors of stroke and victims of stroke. I decided very quickly that I wanted to start a charity that supported as many people affected by stroke as possible, and to move those people from a victim of stroke mentality through to seeing themselves (rightly) as survivors. And the way to achieve this through A Stroke of Luck was to get people active and exercising."

Due to the success of our first 12-week programme, we are raising funds to create another 12-week programme.

And the reason for the Global Goggle Relay: Craig is a former international swimmer and with his background in the sport, we felt this would be a fun social campaign to raise funds whilst linking back with Craig's passion for sport and exercise.

Please do help us to help survivors across the world. After all, 1 in 4 people will experience stroke!
