Story
WILL YOU HELP US with our mission to promote access to football and wellbeing support for young women & girls aged 11-16 from the UK’s most marginalised communities?
On Saturday 13 July, we broke new ground and hosted our first-ever football tournament, G4G Football Festival, in collaboration with the adidas Breaking Barriers project. In our mission to break barriers, this was a free entry event with free adidas kit and refreshments for every participant. We welcomed over 100 girls from 14 teams from across England.
As part of our aim to increase self-worth and raise the aspirations of girls and young women, the event featured three well-being workshops with 20 sessions, aimed at supporting the holistic development of young girls. From meditation and affirmations to sports recovery, these workshops taught players techniques for caring for their bodies and minds. Alongside these activities, participants enjoyed adidas football boot testing, with some players having the opportunity to keep the Predator 24 boots worn by the likes of Alessia Russo and Jude Bellingham. Over 100 organic meals from a local vendor were served, emphasising the importance of nutrition in athletic performance.
We’re different because our programmes are designed by the girls and for the girls. Female-led, we are driven by the desire to break down barriers through football, mentorship in education and pathways to employment, supporting young women to live happier and healthier lives. Our CEO, Francesca Brown, is a former Manchester City footballer, Pride of Britain award winner and Prince’s Trust Ambassador and she has successfully run Goals4Girls since 2011. Her lived experience has helped her understand the challenges our most vulnerable young women and girls are facing today.
