Good Hope Hospitals £300,000 Childrens Appeal is going to renovate the childrens areas across the hospital, making them brighter and more child-friendly.

Each year, 30,000 children are treated at Good Hope Hospital for a range of conditions, including life-threatening and life-limiting ones.

Some children have never been to a hospital before, so visiting one can be a daunting experience for the child, making the experience, in turn, stressful for parents and staff.

The aim of the childrens appeal is to renovate and refurbish the childrens departments within the hospital to make them more child friendly, calm, colourful and enjoyable. Although visiting a hospital may never be an enjoyable experience, it is sometimes hard for a child to understand why they are there so filling the areas they will be visiting with toys, activities and games, will make it a little bit better for them and relax them.

Refurbishment has already begun on some areas in the childrens departments, including adding a play area to the Radiology department and bringing toys into waiting areas and treatment rooms.

Treatment rooms are where children receive injections and tests, so transforming these areas to be calming for young patients will reduce anxiety and stress for both the children and the parents.

There are many children and parents affected by the way in which the childrens departments are decorated and want to help the Charitys Childrens Appeal and make the transition to child friendly wards and departments.

Laura Power, Fundraising Manager for Good Hope Hospital Charity, said: The childrens appeal is already transforming areas of the hospital to make them more child friendly and bright for children and their families.

With the help of our amazing supporters, we will be able to revitalise this department, and others, to make them more welcoming for children and their families.

A trip to the hospital can be very daunting for some children, but making the areas brighter with toys and games will take their mind off of the fact that theyre in hospital. The renovation will not only help the childrens physical and mental wellbeing, but decrease the pressure on staff as happy and relaxed children can be treated quicker.
