Story
The roots of two trees, together with 2022's drought followed by heavy rains caused damage to the Millennium Green’s boundary wall with Welbeck Road. The trees were removed early this year and the wall is now stable, but a 10m length needs repair.
Locally quarried Magnesian Limestone buildings & walls are a feature of the built environment in Woodhouse, some dating back over 300 years. They deserve to be preserved as they give the place character. However, too few are listed and many have been lost or reduced as part of building projects. We do not know the origins of our wall, but we have evidence that it was moved to its current position in 1937 when the road was widened.
The cost of renovating this wall will cost in the region of £7000. We have some reserves, but nowhere near enough to cover all the cost. We are therefore appealing to our friends and supporters who value the Millennium Green to contribute to our Welbeck Road Wall Renovation Fund. All donations, large or small will be gratefully received.
Thank you.
