Story
We will all face a bereavement at some point in our lives – many of us can cope with the support of family and friends, but for others, grief can be so devastating, it can cost lives.
This Christmas – a time of year when loss is felt more acutely –we are calling on you to be a life saver.
A recent counselling client, Wendy, shared her grief journey following the deaths of both her mum and dad just a few months apart, during the pandemic in 2020. You can view the video here.
Wendy tells you how her way of coping was to avoid dealing with her grief, keeping herself super busy, helping others and focusing on her daughter.
This approach to cope worked for Wendy… until it didn’t.
All of her grief and emotions built up and up and became so overwhelming that two years after her bereavements, Wendy found herself facing suicidal thoughts.
We are so grateful to Wendy for having the courage to share her experience – and she hopes that in doing so it will help others to reach out, as the thing many people don't realise is, we hear from people like Wendy every day.
Our volunteers are there to listen and support people who are so devastated by the death of someone close, so completely destroyed, that they cannot imagine continuing without them.
By speaking with our volunteers on the Helpline, using our website’s GriefChat function, or receiving professional one to one support from our volunteer counsellors – those people can being to feel supported, build their resilience and inner strength, learning to cope with their loss and start to move forward positively in their grief journey.
But this vital support can only be given to children, young people and adults in Scotland if we have the funds to provide this service for everyone who needs us. If we cannot raise enough funds then the harsh reality is, people like Wendy may not be able to get the support they need.
And so, this Christmas we are asking - Will you be a life saver?
Please donate to Cruse Scotland today to help many others completely shattered by a death and who have lost all hope.
Even £10 can be life-saving as it pays for a 1 hour call to our bereavement Helpline from someone, who just like Wendy, was in desperate need of support.
A gift of £50 covers the cost of a one-to-one counselling session delivered by a professional and highly trained volunteer counsellor.
£100 trains a Bereavement Helpline Volunteer who will be there to listen to and offer additional support to someone really struggling. This volunteer could speak with up to 200 clients each year!
Whatever you can afford to give would be hugely appreciated and will truly making a life saving difference when the future seems unimaginable.
Thank you, and have a peaceful Christmas.
