Help Us Fund Gus’ Knee Surgery

2-year-old Gus desperately needs surgery on his Patellar (kneecap) to strengthen his knee and allow him to live a pain free life with the freedom to walk, run and play like every dog should. Can you help us raise the money needed to get him this life

The National Animal Welfare Trust cares for and rehomes over 1300 animals a year, from cats and dogs to smalls and sheep! Active in all the communities it serves, the Trust has 5 rescue centres in the south of the UK, supported entirely by the generosity of the animal-loving public.

Story

The handsome boy pictured above is Gus, a 2-year-old bulldog cross who we first met in June. Poor Gus was alone in the world, as an unclaimed stray he was left with no family and nowhere to call home. There was no-one to show him the love he so desperately needed and no-one to help teach him how to behave well or to show him how not to be afraid. We took Gus in and have been working with him to show him kindness, build up his confidence and develop his training. As you can see from his cheeky smile, Gus has a big personality. He’s a bouncy boy who is full of love and likes to cuddle up with his favourite people. Gus would also love to be able to run and play, like any dog his age would but unfortunately, he has a problem with his knee that stops him from being able to do this.

Gus has a Patellar luxation in his right leg which means he cannot extend his knee properly, he cannot put weight on his leg, and it causes him a lot of pain to move the leg. This has a severe impact on Gus’ life, he can’t do all the things he enjoys, he can’t get proper exercise and he can’t relax without being in serious pain. We are managing his pain, but for Gus to have the happy life he deserves, we need to act now to get him the surgery he needs to repair it. We have paired Gus up with one of our fabulous fosterers who will be able to give him all the post-op care he will need to recover well, and she will be able to support him with cage rest to make sure he heals properly to get the best results from the surgery.

What we need now is your help to raise the money needed to cover the cost of his surgery, medicine, and further x-rays. Our vets will be handling all of his care which means that Gus will be with someone who knows him well every step of the way. We anticipate that this care will cost approximately £2,000, all of which will go directly toward Gus’ essential treatment.

Gus will be put up for rehoming once he is fully recovered. Please share Gus’ story and donate today to put a spring back in his step and start his journey to a long, happy life.
