Story
The Hill Garden Pergola is one of Hampstead Heath’s most romantic and iconic landmarks – a place of beauty, history, and tranquillity loved by hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
Built in 1906 as part of a private Edwardian estate, this stunning structure has stood for over a century. Today, it faces the natural challenges of age and weather, and despite decades of care and restoration, it now needs significant investment to secure its future.
On 6 November, Historic England added the Pergola to its Heritage at Risk Register. This recognition is not a sign of decline, but a turning point – opening the door to vital funding and expert support for long-term conservation.
The City of London Corporation, which manages Hampstead Heath as a registered charity, has pledged to safeguard the Pergola for future generations. But we cannot do it alone. Your donation will help:
• Repair and strengthen the structure – including colonnades, oak timbers, and walkways.
• Preserve its historic character while ensuring safety and sustainability.
• Keep the Pergola open and accessible for everyone to enjoy.
Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to protecting this beloved space for decades to come.
Please donate today and help us keep the Hill Garden Pergola standing proud for future generations.
