It is the mission of the Fort Hays State University Foundation to support and advance Fort Hays State University by actively seeking gifts and bequests, and receiving and administering those contributions, in a prudent manner and in accordance to the donors' wishes.

Story

Fort Hays State University's Hispanic College Institute is a free, three-day, residential program that prepares high school Hispanic students to enter and succeed in higher education. For 2021, the Hispanic College Institute will be held in-person on the beautiful Fort Hays State University campus! The dates for this years event are July 23-25, 2021. The program is designed for high school students where they will:

-Live on FHSU's beautiful campus

-Learn about the importance of going to college

-Learn about the college admission process

-Get help writing a college application essay

-Improve public speaking, presentation, and interviewing skills

-Learn how to navigate financial aid and FAFSA application processes

-Engage with Hispanic leaders, mentors, and role models

-Meet with FHSU admissions and financial aid representatives

-Compete for a variety of scholarships

The funding from this project will go directly to providing additional scholarship opportunities for the students who attend this event! This will allow us to increase their ability to attend Fort Hays State University and lessen the financial burden on them and their families. The majority of the students that attend the Hispanic College Institute are first-generation college students, who are trying to navigate their way to achieving a degree.

This is what Adriana Cervantes Montaez had to say about her experience:

"The Hispanic College Institute was a life-changing experience. I had the best 3 days of my high school career. Before attending the camp I never expected I was going to be able to attend college, but after attending the camp I started to understand that anything is possible. HCI will always have a special place in my heart. I am so proud to say that, in the past, I was a mentee, and now I am the mentor for other students. HCI is an event that every Hispanic/Latino students deserve to attend."
