Story
Huntington’s disease can feel overwhelming and isolating, but time and again, we see the difference that community can make.
HDPlay is our new community fundraising challenge, designed to bring people together through gaming and connection.
Take part in whatever way works for you, whether that’s through our 30–50 Challenge or by creating your own gaming fundraiser. Video games, board games, and sports all count.
Alongside your gaming, you may also want to create space to talk openly about the impact of Huntington’s disease, or simply enjoy the challenge and take part in your own way.
About Huntington's disease
Around 8,000 people in the UK are living with Huntington’s disease. It affects your nervous system which co-ordinates your body’s activities, your cognitive ability and behaviour. It is caused by a faulty gene in your DNA and sadly there is no cure.
Many people with Huntington’s develop symptoms between the ages of 30 and 50 – the approximate time from first symptoms to passing away is usually 20 years. In rare cases children and young people can also develop symptoms; this is known as Juvenile Huntington’s disease.
Every penny raised will help fund invaluable services for people living with Huntington’s disease and their families, people at risk of inheriting Huntington’s and training for professionals. Did you know that:
• £10 could help pay towards answering more calls from people affected by Huntington's disease on our Helpline, providing advice and emotional support in times of crisis
• £12.50 could help pay towards our Specialist Advisers attending peer support groups for people affected by Huntington's
• £15 could help pay towards a Specialist Adviser attending a specialist Huntington's disease clinic, to provide support to the families and professionals involved.
