Story
Nafisa's Story
Nafisa was living comfortably in Khartoum when war broke out, her father went missing and her world collapsed into chaos. As she and her mother fled south, the war seemed to follow them. Food was hard to come by and at one point she almost died from cholera. She witnessed scenes of horror which haunted her dreams. By the time she reached safety, she was completely withdrawn, refusing to eat and felt she had nothing to live for.
Counsellors trained by ACT International identified severe post-traumatic stress disorder and started one-to-one therapy. Over the next few months Nafisa regained her composure and her symptoms gradually disappeared. One day she announced that she wanted to study hard and become a doctor. Overjoyed, her mother remarked “I can’t believe my daughter is coming back to her normal self”.
You Can Help Bring Healing and Hope to Sudan’s Children
Since civil war erupted in Sudan in 2023, millions of families have been torn apart. Over 12 million people have fled their homes, making this the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Yet with so many global emergencies, Sudan’s children are being forgotten.
Many have travelled many miles on foot to reach Uganda, arriving exhausted, frightened, and often alone. In overcrowded refugee settlements, children who have seen violence and loss are struggling to feel safe — let alone heal or learn.
Our charity is working with trusted local trauma trainers in Uganda and South Sudan to equip front-line workers with crucial trauma-healing skills. By Spring 2026, we will bring 20 community workers to Arua for training, giving them the tools to help children recover through structured play, therapeutic treatment and emotional support.
We urgently need to raise £15,000 to make this possible.
Your gift will:
• Deliver specialist trauma training for front-line workers
• Provide essential equipment and safe, nurturing treatment for children
• Strengthen safeguarding and emotional support in refugee communities
Every pound you give will help restore safety, hope, and childhood to children who have already lost so much.
Together, we can help them begin to heal — and believe in a future again.
