Hello everyone! We are a group of volunteers embarking on an incredible journey to South Africa to support Embo Community Church's Primary Health Care programme, supported by Medic Assist International.
About the Trip: On May 5th, we will be traveling to Embo, near Durban.
Those that are registered nurses and midwives will sit in on consultations with the clinic's nurses and give health information to mums at the mother and child clinic.
We will also be going out on home visits with the Community Caregiver team. Listening to people’s stories to be an encouragement and support as well as bringing back stories about how your support makes a difference.
In the mornings, some of us will be helping out at the church's creche that has over 100 children enrolled. In the afternoons we will be volunteering in the 80 bed care home run by the church, helping out where we can.
The Tech Team will be connecting a Primary Health Centre (PHC) to the internet by setting up a Jangala Big Box. Once the PHC can access the internet, they will be able to get test results back faster. The nurses can get up to date good practice information when they need it. And they will be able to show current health information films in the patient waiting area. This will help to improve health in the community. The team will also have meetings with officials and local organisations about others having the benefit of a Jangala Big Box.
Last but not least, we will all be working together to prepare a generous lunch for over 100 local pensioners. HIV and AIDs tragically took the lives of many parents with young families, leaving the grandparents to raise their children. With only a small pension, these grandparents struggle to make ends meet. The 'Grannies lunch' is a moment of respite where they can eat a good meal and enjoy each other’s company.
While we have committed to giving our time and energy, as well as covering all our travel costs to volunteer for this amazing programme, we are taking the opportunity to ask if you would also like to support this life saving work, bringing hope and health to thousands of people every year.
Your donation will help the Embo health team continue to bring health and hope to this desperately poor community.
£21 could treat 3 grannies to a delicious enjoyable lunch
£52 could pay for two month’s internet connection at a Primary Health Care Centre using a Jangala Big Box.
£84 could help two patients and their families start a nutritious kitchen garden.
£128 would cover a Community Caregiver's stipend of one month
Please spread the word by sharing our page with any of your friends, family , who you think would like to help a project like this.
We are incredibly grateful for your support and generosity. Together, we can make a lasting impact and bring health and hope to those who need it most. Thank you for being a part of our journey!
