Join The Challenge Today!
St. Joseph families, staff, and community members are invited to join the Hear to Read challenge by setting a reading goal for the month of February and raising money within their networks. All readers who raise $25 and submit their reading trackers will win a prize! Find more information and participation instructions here.
Whether you're reading with your book club, to your children, or listening to an audiobook on the go, your participation will directly support our Listening and Spoken Language services and give the children we serve the language and literacy skills they need to thrive.
Reading is FUNdamental!

Reading is an essential part of developing listening and language skills in babies and children. Research indicates that language-rich experiences such as reading help children with hearing loss develop age-appropriate literacy skills, preparing them for a lifetime of academic and personal success (Clarke Schools 2024).
Providing young children with literacy-based experiences such as reading aloud requires them to listen, speak and interact with language early on. In turn, that builds the foundation for growing into confident speakers, listeners, readers and writers of language.

In 2024, St. Joseph Hearing + Speech established the Hear to Read challenge to encourage children and families to read together while raising money to support our Listening and Spoken Language services. We are pleased to announce that funds raised in the 2026 Hear to Read challenge will be matched by Katz, Sapper, and Miller.
